When changing valve lifters, it is recommended that the lifters be allowed to "settle/seat" for a minimum of 30 minutes to allow excess oil to drain. If this recommendation is not followed, some valves may make contact with the piston, resulting in valve breakage at the collet groove. It is best if the engine is allowed to rest overnight before starting it for the first time. If possible, the engine should be hand cranked before first start up. When changing valve lifters, it is recommended that the lifters are allowed to "settle/seat" for a minimum of 30 minutes to allow excess oil to drain. If this recommendation is not followed, some valves will make contact with the piston, resulting in the valve to break at the collet groove. It is als o ideal if the engine is allowed to rest over night before starting the eng ine for the first time. If possible, the engine should be hand cranked or turned by hand the first time. These tappets are aprox .015 thicker than OE tappets. This can/may create a challenge when shimming the valves for correct/proper clearance. With this "oversize" circumstance in mind these tappets do work, however the "Std" size tappet is prefered. * We are currently attempting to source "Std" size tappets. 12/97 dk At/on rocker arm. Includes o-ring # JE26-12-109. *New hydraulic lifters are recommended by VAG to be replaced at the same time as new valves are also replaced. It is further recommeded that the lifters are allowed to "Settle" for a minimum of 30 mins to allow excess oil to drain. If this recommendation is not complied with, somes valves will contact the piston. This will cause the valve to break at the collet groove. It is also ideal if the engine be allowed rest over night before starting the engine for the first time. Engine should be turned by hand 1st
