Choosing what’s best for you
Now that you have a general idea of the benefits and tradeoffs to obtain higher torque capacity, it may still be difficult to know what combination is right for a particular application. This is probably the most difficult topic since there are so many different levels of personal tolerance and many variations in design. Some people can tolerate clutch chatter, or noise, or heavy pedal effort, or shorter clutch life, or higher cost, or extreme modifications, or other tradeoffs. But why tolerate unnecessary issues if you don’t have to? Get the clutch that suits your needs.
Carefully consider the characteristics of the product you are choosing. Browse our product information to see what you can expect from ACT parts. We don’t offer our clutches in stages like many of our competitors. This is because we found it difficult to “stage” our clutches in a way that makes sense except from a marketing standpoint. Would we rate them by torque capacity, engagement harshness, clamp load, looks or price? It would be nice to package our parts in nice neat categories but If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
If you are looking at the competition, don’t believe everything you read. Some are better than others but make sure their parts measure up to your expectations. Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
There is no perfect clutch but we feel ACT has a practical and comprehensive approach to clutches. We are constantly increasing our engineering and manufacturing capabilities. As we continue to advance, look for exciting new products and developments.
